N. Koreans in Johor feeling jittery

JOHOR BARU: North Koreans in Johor are making plans to move elsewhere, according to those who have friends from that country working there.

“A North Korean friend, who lives in Malaysia, has already started making arrangements to move to another country. His wife and daughter are anxious about the uncertainties if they stay here,” said a South Korean engineer who declined to be named.

The South Korean engineer said these North Koreans were opting to move back to their homeland or to another country.

“We (South Koreans) obviously have no problems but the North Korean community here is pretty shaken up. They feel a sense of uncertainty until the situation is completely resolved,” he said.

As for him, he said that he does not live permanently in Malaysia.

“I have been shuttling around Johor, Kuala Lumpur and Seoul for work over the past three years,” he added.

He said the North Koreans he knew preferred to stay silent on the case that has rocked global headlines.

Many of them, when approached at convenience stores and restaurants here, declined to be interviewed.
