JOHOR BARU: A teenager has been detained by the police for allegedly posting insulting remarks about Tunku Mahkota Johor Tunku Ismail Ibni Sultan Ibrahim with the WhatsApp messaging app.
Johor police chief Comm Datuk Seri Wan Ahmad Najmuddim Mohd said that the 19-year-old male was arrested at 3.25pm on Sunday after a police report was lodged on Feb 4.
In a press statement Sunday, he said that a mobile phone and a SIM card were seized from the suspect.
He said that the case is being investigated under Section 233(1)(a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
Earlier on Sunday, Sultan Ibrahim directed the police to stop investigations over the case of a man who allegedly insulted state royalty via a video posted on Facebook.
He had decreed that his son, Johor Crown Prince Tunku Ismail, did not want to prolong the case.
