Pedestrian bridge collapse: At least one dead

KUALA LUMPUR: At least one person was killed and four people injured when a pedestrian bridge under construction collapsed near Mid Valley Megamall on Jalan Kampung Haji Abdullah Hukum.

The Fire and Rescue Department's K9 unit is also on hand to be deployed to assist in search and rescue operations.

City Fire and Rescue Department chief operations officer Samsol Maarif Saibani said the department was alerted about the incident at 3.33pm on Wednesday.

Samsol said that firemen from the Pantai, Hang Tuah and Seputeh fire stations have been dispatched to the scene.

Meanwhile, Star Media Radio Traffic reports that traffic is heavy on four roads due to the collapse of the overhead bridge -- the Federal Highway from the arch, the Kerinchi Link from after the Pantai Toll, the Kerinchi Intersection from either Bangsar South or Pantai Medical Centre, and Jln Syed Putra from the Kuen Cheng School till the Robson Intersection.
