Najib expresses condolences over King Bhumibol's passing

PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak (pic) has expressed his condolences over the death of Thailand's King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

"On behalf of the Malaysian people, I wish to express our sincere and heartfelt condolences to the Royal Family, Government, and people of Thailand on the passing of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

"King Bhumibol was a towering presence whose contribution to Thailand, and the rest of the region, is beyond words. We join the Thai people in mourning his loss," said Najib.

The palace announced that King Bhumibol, aged 88, passed away at 3.52pm (4.52pm Malaysian time) Thursday.

He was the world's longest-reigning monarch and was on the throne since 1946, a total of 70 years.
