Niosh: Risky to wear soft rubber shoes on escalators

PETALING JAYA: Children wearing soft rubber shoes are at a higher risk of being involved in an escalator accident as 99% of such accidents occur when they get stuck in the escalator’s gaps.

A study led by the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) revealed that in nearly all 31 escalator incidents recorded nationwide between 2011 and 2015, victims had been wearing soft rubber shoes.
