Dr Mahathir hopes Muhyiddin will also quit Umno

PUTRAJAYA: Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad hopes suspended Umno deputy president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin (pic) will follow him out of the party.

"I hope so," he said when asked if the former deputy prime minister would also leave Umno.

Earlier, Dr Mahathir announced that he was quiting the party because it supported the actions of Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

On whether his son Datuk Seri Mukhriz, who recently quit as Kedah mentri besar, would follow him out of Umno, he said: "I can't speak for my son but my wife joins me in leaving Umno."

Former Batu Kawan division vice-chairman Datuk Seri Kairuddin Abu Hassan, who was present at the press conference, announced that he too was leaving the party.

Khairuddin has lodged several police reports against 1MDB overseas.
