KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Islamic Religious Affairs Department has advised owners of premises selling seafood and seafood products to seek halal certification following growing public concern over the matter.
Its enforcement division chief Alidin Ali Hassan said to obtain halal certification, owners need to file an application with the department for a fee of RM200.
"The process of inspection and issuance of the halal certificate will take about 30 to 45 days.
"So far, halal certification had been issued to 511 products, 71 slaughterhouses, 14 logistics and 278 food premises," he said at the Consumer Protection Task Force meeting chaired by State Community Development and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Jainab Ahmad Ayid here Friday.
Also present were representatives of the Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry, Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim), and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission. – Bernama
