Two siblings arrested over mother's murder

KUALA LUMPUR: Two siblings have been arrested over the murder of their 63-year-old mother at a flat in Bandar Permaisuri, Cheras.

The two - a 25-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman - were detained in the living room of a Pangsapuri Sri Penara unit here beside the body of their mother, Wan Yah Wan Mat from Kelantan.

City CID chief Senior Asst Comm Datuk Zainuddin Ahmad said Wan Yah was discovered with bruises on her eyes and mouth, while traces of blood were seen oozing from her nose.

“The back of her head was also bruised. She was pronounced dead by a medical team from the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Hospital at the scene,” said Asst Comm Zainuddin.

He said that Wan Yah’s two children were arrested immediately at the scene.

Prior to the arrests, SAC Zainuddin said police received a call from a woman named “Sinar” at about 3pm.

He said that the caller informed the police that there was water flowing from the unit’s front door.

“That was how the police was led to the flat. The front door was locked so we called in the Fire and Rescue Department to help us gain access to the unit,” said SAC Zainuddin.

He said that the police found the suspects and Wan Yah’s body in the living room when they entered the unit.

The body has been sent to the hospital for post-mortem and the case has been classified under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

Police are currently investigating the motive behind the killing.
