Dr Wee gets Malacca award

MALACCA: International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed and Minister in the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong received their awards at the Malacca Governor Tun Mohd Khalil Yaakob’s 77th birthday investiture ceremony at Seri Negeri in Ayer Keroh here.

Mustapa and Dr Wee were awarded the Darjah Gemilang Seri Melaka (DGSM), which carries the “Datuk Seri” title. They were among 35 recipients

This year, 760 recipients will receive various titles in three separate investiture ceremonies.

Mustapa, when met later, said the Malacca government’s recognition was indeed an honour to him and his family.

“I also like to commend the state government for effectively wooing foreign direct investment (FDI) which should be emulated by other states.

“The Guangdong and Malacca trade relationship has not only benefited Malacca but the country as a whole,” he said.

Dr Wee said: “As a Malacca-born, I am really proud to receive the title at my hometown and thank Tun (Mod Khalil) and Chief Minister (Datuk Seri Idris Haron) for honouring me with the title.”

The Darjah Cemerlang Seri Melaka (DCSM), which carries the title “Datuk Wira” was also conferred to Federal Court judge Tan Sri Ahmad Maarop; Royal Malaysian Air Force chief Jen Tan Sri Roslan Saad and Tabung Haji chairman Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim. They were also conferred during the first investiture session.

Three recipients of the Darjah Mulia Seri Melaka (DMSM), which carries the title “Datuk”, were Malacca Public Work and Amenities Committee deputy chairman Datuk Zaidi Atan; state Education, Higher Learning, Science, Green Technology and Innovation Committee deputy chairman Datuk Sulaiman Md Ali and state Health, Sport and Anti-Drug Committee deputy chairman Datuk Ng Choon Koon.

Malacca MCA liaison committee secretary Datuk Koh Chin Han, Malacca Umno Youth chief Senator Mat Zali and Malacca deputy police chief Senior Asst Comm Datuk Mohd Shahrizan Che Mat Din received the Darjah Pangkuan Seri Melaka (DPSM) award during the ceremony.
