Johor Sultan decrees Kulaijaya revert to Kulai name

JOHOR BARU: Johor Ruler Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar (pic) has decreed for the name of the Kulaijaya district to be reverted back to its original name of Kulai effective immediately.

He instructed the state government, under Mentri Besar Datuk Mohamed Khaled Nordin, to change the name back to its original one.

"Though some names of places or kampung might have strange-sounding names, it is still a name given by our ancestors and we should preserve it and not change it," he said in his speech after the Friday prayers here.

He spoke after the launching of Masjid Tunku Laksamana Abdul Jalil at the Johor state police headquarters.

Sultan Ibrahim also told the state government to reconsider and come up with a new name for state administrative centre Nusajaya.

"The name Nusajaya to me does not reflect the history and background of the place so I hope that a new name can be given," he added.
