MACC directors reinstated

PUTRAJAYA: Two Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission directors have been reinstated to their original posts after they clarified matters with Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa.

Dr Ali ordered that the two – Datuk Bahri Mohamad Zin and Datuk Rohaizad Yaakob – return to the MACC and re-assume their original posts, effective immediately.

Bahri is head of special operations while Rohaizad leads MACC’s strategic communications section.

Both were supposed to report for duties at the Prime Minister’s Department (PMD) yesterday, according to an announcement on Friday.

However, instead of turning up at the PMD, the two were at the Chief Secretary’s office at nearby Perdana Putra Building after being summoned by Dr Ali.

Several hours later, Dr Ali issued a statement that he and Public Service Department director-general Tan Sri Mohamad Zabidi Zainal had met with the two men.

“Both officers clarified their actions in making media statements. Following the clarifications, I decided to cancel their transfers and they are to return to their original posts in the MACC,” he said.

Subsequently in Kuching, Bernama reported Dr Ali telling reporters after an Aidilfitri reception that the transfer had nothing to do with the investigation into 1Malaysia Development Bhd.

Both Bahri and Rohaizad kept mum on the decision to cancel their transfers.

“Ask my boss, he is back,” Bahri told reporters after leaving the commission’s headquarters at about 1.30pm. He was quickly ushered to a waiting vehicle.

MACC deputy chief commissioner (operations) Datuk Seri Mohd Shukri Abdull arrived home on Sunday night after an official visit to New York.

Rohaizad appeared in a good mood and smiled to reporters. He also declined to comment on his reinstatement.
