MACC director lashes out over search in 1MDB probe

PUTRAJAYA: A Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) director has lashed out against the search of its office by the police. 

Speaking to reporters outside the commission's headquarters here, MACC special operations division director Datuk Bahrin Mohd Zin (pic) said it was "baffling" that the deputy public prosecutor (DPP) was hauled up. 

"We have conducted the investigations on 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) thoroughly.  

"Suddenly our DPP was hauled up by the police. It baffles us how this could happen,” he added.  

Earlier, Bahrin had been questioned over two hours by CID officers at the MACC headquarters in relation to a purported leak of documents in the 1MDB probe.   

On Saturday, police searched the home of DPP Ahmad Sazilee Abdul Khairi and at his MACC office.

 Documents on 1MDB and its former subsidiary SRC International as well as laptops were seized.

This came after the arrests of former MAC advisory board member Tan Sri Rashpal Singh and Attorney-General’s Chambers finance and anti-money laundering secretariat member Jessica Gurmeet Kaur. 

They were detained to assist police investigations on the alleged leak. 

Sarawak Report had published a draft charge sheet purportedly leaked by the investigation team on 1MDB.

On the leak, Bahrin said he was positive that it did not come from the MACC. 

"I am very confident that it did not come from us and that it is a reproduction," he added.
