Despatch clerk remanded after fifth arrest made over 1MDB probe

PUTRAJAYA: A despatch clerk is the fifth individual to be remanded to assist the special task force investigating the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) scandal.

The 27-year-old was arrested at his house in Bentong at 6.30pm on Saturday by Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officers and was brought to the magistrate's court here, Sunday morning.

Magistrate Nik Isfahanie Tasmin Ab Rahman allowed the clerk to be remanded for four days.

MACC deputy public prosecutor Ahmad Sazilee Abdul Khairi had requested for seven days.

The clerk is being investigated under Section 16(a) of the MACC Act, which covers bribery.

Five individuals have been remanded by the task force since Tuesday, and two have been released on bail.

The despatch worker is believed to be connected to the third individual who was remanded - a 28-year-old business owner who was hauled up on Friday.
