PLUS: Travel during the off-peak days

PETALING JAYA: Motorists must plan well to travel during off-peak days this Hari Raya season.

PLUS Malaysia Bhd managing director Datuk Noorizah Abdul Hamid said she was concerned about the declining number of people travelling during the off-peak dates.

PLUS data showed that only about 35% followed its advice when planning their journeys during Hari Raya last year.

“This was lower by about 10% from that in 2013,” said Noorizah.

“We need about 55% to 60% of the anticipated 1.6 million road users to travel during the off-peak dates to notably lessen the traffic congestion and its potential danger.

“The public should not assume that others are following the advice and that they are privileged to travel on the peak dates.

“They must be more proactive in rescheduling their journey dates,” she told reporters on Monday.

PLUS had announced that it was offering toll rebates of between 30% and 50% for those travelling during off-peak dates and paying electronically.

There is no time restriction on the rebates for those who choose to travel on these dates.

The 50% toll rebate is for July 13 and 23 while the 40% cut is for July 14 and 22.

The 30% rebate is for July 15 and 21.

More information is available on the PLUS website as well as the latest traffic updates via its Twitter, mobile apps and helpline.

PLUS is the operator of the 772km North-South Expressway.
