PETALING JAYA: A 23-year old Malaysian student has been sentenced to five years in jail by a British court for possessing over 30,000 images and videos of child pornography.
Nor Nordin, who arrived in the United Kingdom in 2014 after winning a scholarship to study at Imperial College, was jailed Thursday for five years at Southwark Crown Court for a total of 13 offences.
The offences, as reported in the British media, included the possession of indecent images and videos of minors, and “intent to distribute the material”.
It was also reported that he faces the possibility of immediate deportation upon his release from jail.
The British press reported that Nordin was caught in a raid on his Queensborough Terrace, London house on November 20 last year which netted 600 “Category A” videos and photos.
“Category A” is used by law enforcement in the United Kingdom to define the most extreme form of child sexual abuse involving penetrative sex with a child.
Nur Nordin was reportedly found logged on to his laptop next to a life-sized mannequin of a young boy during the police raid.
It was also reported that the case’s investigating officer, Detective Constable Sara Keane of the Metropolitan Serious Crime Unit, said that Nur Nordin was also involved in the production and distribution of the images and videos.
“Nordin was involved in the making and sharing of some of the most extreme images that have ever been seen by officers that work in this field,” she said.
Keane added that a jail sentence for Nordin was inevitable due to the volume of images and the “alarming content” found in his possession.
