Two teams buzz through to victory

KUCHING: A strong showing in the buzzer quiz round paid off for SMK St Joseph and SMK Green Road as they overtook the early leaders to emerge victorious in the RHB-The Star Mighty Minds Sarawak state challenge.

SMK St Joseph's team members Joshua Jong, Irvine Ethan and Jacx Chan won the lower secondary category after scoring nine points in the final quiz.

“We didn't even plan for the hands-on challenge round because we didn't expect to make it through,” Jacx said.

In second place was St Joseph's Private School while SMK Batu Lintang took third place.

Similarly, the trio from SMK Green Road took the upper secondary category honours after scoring 10 points in the buzzer quiz.

“It came down to general knowledge. I guess it was just luck,” said team member Muhd Hafiey Wajdi.

He and teammates Mohd Nashu­rudeen Hamja Deen and Awangku Ariff Radhi were surprised by their victory as they had had little time to prepare for the challenge.

Two teams from SM Lodge finished second and third.

The winners, who received RM5,000 and a projector for their schools, will represent Sarawak in the national finals to be held in the Klang Valley after the 14 state challenges are complete.
