Syabas: Water supply in Petaling to be fully restored by Wednesday

PETALING JAYA: Water supply is expected to be fully restored in the Petaling district by early Wednesday morning, said Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor (Syabas).

Syabas Corporate Communications and Public Affairs Manager Priscilla Alfred told The Star Online that, currently, the Petaling district was at 21% recovery status.

She said the Hulu Langat, Kuala Langat and Sepang districts that were also affected should have had their water supply restored already.

Priscilla said the delay in restoring water to every area in the Petaling district was due to the area’s size.

“We estimate that water will be restored in most areas by the end of Tuesday or Wednesday morning,” she said.

The Petaling district covers Puchong, Subang Jaya, Serdang and UPM among others.

She added that the restoration of water would depend on the usage.

“If people use a lot of water, the recovery takes longer,” she said.

The water disruptions were caused after high levels of ammonia and manganese levels were detected in Sungai Semenyih on Sunday.

Operations at the Sungai Semenyih water treatment plant were halted on Sunday and was only restarted at 3am on Monday.
