KOTA BARU: The Kelantan State Assembly will convene a special sitting in March to amend the Syariah Criminal Code (II) 1993.

Mentri Besar Datuk Ahmad Yakob said the special sitting of the state assembly slated for Dec 29 last year was postponed due to the massive flood.

"The technical committee has held several meetings and discussions to prepare amendments to the enactment.

"Procedures to implement the Syariah Criminal Code are ready," he said in a statement.

Ahmad said the state government's agenda to care for the people's welfare will continue in tandem with the implementation of the penal code (hudud law).

"The Syariah Penal Code has to be implemented as commanded by Allah. It is  is the duty of every Muslim to uphold it.

"This is an obligation, just like the five prayers daily for Muslims," he added. - Bernama
