Nurul and hubby’s divorce finalised

KUALA LUMPUR: Lembah Pantai MP Nurul Izzah Anwar and businessman Raja Ahmad Shahrir Iskandar Raja Salim have officially divorced – he pronounced the talak in a Syariah High Court here.

Raja Ahmad Shahrir finalised the divorce before Syarie judge Mohd Amran Mat Zain in the presence of his counsel Azmi Mohd Rais, Nurul Izzah and her counsel Normawaddah Ramli yesterday.

Raja Ahmad Shahrir was seen wiping his tears after uttering the talak.

The divorce petition was filed by Nurul Izzah in December 2013 under Section 47 of the Islamic Family Law (Federal Territories) Act.

Mohd Amran said the court accepted the pronouncement. “The marriage certificate issued before this should be revoked,” he said.

The couple married on May 9, 2003.

Earlier, Mohd Amran instructed that the couple’s eight-year-old daughter and five-year-old son came under joint custody.

The court also recorded mutual agreed terms from both parties.

Azmi said among the agreed terms, Nurul Izzah would not file for mutaah claim and matrimonial property.
