Septuagenarian ‘stripped’ of RM3,900 by blackmail

KUALA LUMPUR: A 72-year-old retiree who was at the lowest point of his life became the latest victim to fall for the nude blackmail scam after he stripped for his online lover.

Known only as Lee, the septuagenarian from Johor said he met “Ae Sook Choi” who told him that she was from Korea.

“We met on Facebook in September before we started Skyping on Oct 9. On Oct 15, we Skyped together and she stripped naked for me. She asked me to do the same,” he said at Wisma MCA here yesterday.

Lee said he obliged his “lover” and stripped as well.

“Later that day, she sent me a message demanding money and threatened to upload the video of me stripping on the Internet. I paid her RM3,900 in five transactions,” he said, adding that all the money was transferred into a Philippine account.

He said he fell for the con because he was at the lowest point of his life.

Another man, who only wanted to be known as Alan Kok, 27, said he was also blackmailed after stripping naked for a woman he befriended online.

“I met a woman who called herself Tasha Wong on Facebook. She claimed she was a Singaporean model,” he said.

“After a few conversations, she asked me to install Skype so that we could have cybersex.”

He added that he stripped nude for the girl on Dec 5.

The following day, Kok said the woman sent him a YouTube link, demanding RM15,000, failing which his video clip would be posted online.

He said that after negotiations, the sum was lowered to RM4,500, which he also paid into a Philippine account.

“But the woman contacted me again, claiming to have prepared copies of the clip to be distributed in Malaysia,” he said. “She even challenged me to lodge a police report.”

MCA Public Services and Com­plaints Department chairman Datuk Seri Michael Chong said he had handled 16 such cases this year alone.

He urged those in the same situa­tion not to pay their blackmailers.
