POPULAR tech-centric words such as “selfie”, “hashtag” and “tweet” will be making their way into Kamus Dewan, reported Kosmo!

Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) director-general Datuk Dr Awang Sariyan said these new inclusions were in line with the role of dictionaries to record words widely used by the public.

However, these words will be labelled “bp” for bahasa percakapan (colloquial language) which is used to designate words that have yet to be accepted as standard language.

“People must read the introduction of the dictionary to know how to use it, including words labelled ‘bp’, so that there are no misconceptions that all words in the dictionary are ‘formal’ words,” Dr Awang said.
