Wan Azizah does not discount becoming Selangor MB

KAJANG: PKR President Datuk Seri Wan Azizah (pic) has not discounted the chance of becoming the Selangor Mentri Besar although she wants to focus on serving the people of Kajang first.

"I have said a few times that I prefer to do my service (to the Kajang people). I don't really think much of the position.

“This morning I come as an Adun of Kajang and whatever has been said about the MB's post at the moment....I don't want to speculate," she hesitantly told a press conference after meeting with members of the Kajang council on Thursday.

Wan Azizah won the Kajang by election on Sunday, garnering 16741 votes compared to 11362 votes for Barisan Nasional candidate Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun.

When asked if she would consider the post if Pakatan Rakyat nominated her for it, Wan Azizah said she would think about it.

When asked on whether she will contest the PKR president's post in the party's upcoming polls, Wan Azizah said she would be concentrating on her constituency for now.

She however said that she would contest the post if the Registrar of Societies (ROS) did not allow her husband Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to contest the post.

The court of appeal recently found Anwar guilty of sodomy and handed him a five-year prison sentence.

She added that she would also consult PKR members on the issue of the president's post.

She said among the issues in Kajang that she would be concentrating on pertained to youth, crime and transportation.
