KUALA LUMPUR: Police will embark on an anti-corruption campaign called Tolak Rasuah in order to regain the public’s confidence, said Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar.
He admitted that the biggest obstacle in any government body is to embark on the transformation in terms of personnel and organisation.
“We are working on it,” he said after Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak launched the 207th Police Day Celebration at the Police Training Centre (Pulapol) here yesterday.
He added that police would focus on upholding integrity within the force to regain the public’s trust.
“With the establishment of the Integrity and Standard Compliance Department (JIPS) last year, we would be keeping tabs on our personnel.
“It was formed as a measure to increase discipline and positive perception in the police force.
“We have also established the Integrated Public Agency Complaints Monitoring System (ISPAAA) and implemented the Whistleblower Protection Act 2010 to elevate the force’s image among the people.
“The Act is aimed at encouraging police personnel to come forward to supply information of misconduct among their peers,” he said.
Khalid said to keep the public safe a new task force had been formed.
“For example, the Special Tactics and Intelligence Narcotics Group (Sting) was formed earlier this year to bust drug rings in the country.
“The elite force is to uncover kingpins, stop drug shipments through all entry and exit points and seize precursor substances (ingredients used for manufacturing illicit drugs).
“As for the Special Task Force on Organised Crime (Stafoc), it aims to address serious crimes, gangsterism, gambling, prostitution and human trafficking,” he said.
