The Star goes up close with Golden Globe stars

LOS ANGELES: Riza Aziz, the Malaysian producer of Golden Globe-nominated movie, Wolf Of Wall Street, could not believe his ears when told that The Star was in the movie capital to cover the awards ceremony.

"No way," he shouted back when this reporter told him The Star was the only Malaysian media invited to cover the ceremony.

Riza is the son of Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, wife of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, from an earlier marriage.

Riza of Red Granite Films explained that working with the movie's lead actor Leonardo DiCaprio was a pleasant experience and that the actor was an ultimate professional.

He said that Wolf Of Wall Street was a comedy, a cautionary tale about men, money and greed.

DiCaprio won the Best Actor award for Wolf, thanking Riza in his acceptance speech.

The 71st Golden Globe Awards, organised by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, rolled on smoothly at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

While the movie 12 Years A Slave led the way with seven nominations, it was American Hustle that emerged the lead winner of the night. The film won for Best Picture in the Comedy or Musical category, Best Actress (Amy Adams) and Best Supporting Actress (Jennifer Lawrence).

Among the winners of the night that The Star spoke to were Lawrence, Amy Adams, Michael Douglas, Chiwetel Ejiofor and the cast of TV show Brooklyn Nine- Nine.

On how she stays grounded as it must be hard for a young actress like her not to screw up, Lawrence said: “I just have a good group of friends that I have had for a very long time and an amazing family, and I am just always busy working. I don’t have time to get into trouble.”

The veteran Douglas, who won for Best Actor in a Mini-Series or Motion Picture for his saucy portrayal of Liberace, when asked which was more fun to play, baddies or good guys, said: “I’ve always enjoyed playing bad guys more because I don’t know of any good guys. I have always been intrigued by the ambivalence of characters.”
