Police foil mass gathering of Mat Rempit in Penang


Police set up road blocks at all roads going into Batu Ferringhi and checked more than 2,000 motorcycles.

GEORGE TOWN: Police foiled a massive effort to organise an illegal race in Batu Ferringhi here early this morning, detaining more than 1,500 mat rempit including 10 women.

Timur Laut District Police Chief ACP Gan Kong Meng said the street racers were from Johor, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Perak, Perlis and Kedah, and had entered Penang in stages early Friday.
