KUALA LUMPUR: The Star Online proved that it is among the best websites in the Asian region when it won a bronze award at the WAN-Ifra Asian Digital Media Awards 2013.
The Star Online won a bronze award for the Best Newspaper Website, said to be one of the most competitive categories.
www.stomp.com.sg (Singapore Press Holdings) won the Gold award while New Zealand Herald Online won the Silver award.
The award was presented during a ceremony Wednesday evening organised by the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers (WAN-Ifra) at the Shangri-La Hotel in Kuala Lumpur.
Judges from 29 media organisations from all over the world were involved in the judging process.
Around 200 people were present at the awards ceremony, which was held in conjunction with the Digital Media Asia 2013 conference.
"We are honoured to be placed alongside such prestigious news organisations," said The Star Online editor Philip Golingai.
"At a time where digital media is at the forefront of news reporting, it is quite a challenge to provide quality breaking news in an exciting fashion," said Golingai.
"We are gratified that our efforts to do so have been recognised," he added.
Ever since The Star Online unveiled its new look in July 2013, the design has made it easier for readers to navigate through its diverse content.
Various subsites such as myStarjob, StarProperty, Daily Chili, mStar and Rage are interlinked on the main site and are just one click away.
On top of that, The Star Online incorporates several multimedia elements into its articles, including video and photography components, brings the user experience to the next level.
