From engineer to cow-boy

I met with several potential investors as well as countless visits to banks for loans and 'Ladang susu Jati' finally took off," he said, adding that the move had his family's support.

During the Star Online's visit to his farm, Selvendrrah was seen working in his barn.

"Currently I have one bull, seven milk-producing cows, three heisers (virgin cows) and five calves. Maintaining them already takes almost all of my time. As the business is rather new, I have to handle both the management as well as the labour level of the business," he said adding that he runs the business with his brother.

He said the initial stages were extremely challenging and one of the most heartbreaking experience was to witness the loss of his cows which died due to bone infections.

Selvendrrah added that the move from his playful life of an engineering student to a serious businessman still leaves him homesick.

"I used to live in Kelana Jaya and hangout in places like Bangsar, and now my life revolves around this farm of mine. As tough as it is, I have no regrets as I believe these sacrifices will aid in me living a comfortable life in the future. I am inspired by the people who have made it big by taking risks instead of treading the common path."

"Personalities like Datuk Johannis Al-Arif Ibrahim who supplies milk for the 'Susu 1 Malaysia' scheme have played a large role in my involvement in this business," he said.

Selvendrrah then explained that once he expands his business  he aspires to aid the poor to pursue their education.

"I know how it is to be unable to pursue your education due to financial restrictions and I would like to alleviate others from that disappointment."

In addition to his educational qualification and business, Selvendrrah also pursues the tabla (a north Indian percussion instrument) at the Temple of Fine Arts.

He added that pursuing a career in a field totally unrelated to one's educational qualification, is common these days, however, he hopes to be one of those who makes it big and aids in improving the society.
