PASIR PUTEH: The Agriculture Research and Development Institute (Mardi) allocated RM15mil for its Azam Tani project aimed at lifting the hardcore poor within three years, from 2010.

Mardi deputy director-general Datuk Dr Masri Muhamad said 1,500 participants, mostly farmers, were selected nationwide for the programme.

"Seventy percent of them have managed to more than double their monthly incomes from RM600 to RM1,500," he told reporters after presenting aid to 19 participants at Padang Pak Amat here.

They received a range of equipment such as sewing machines, sugar cane juicers, three-wheel motorcycles and pesticide sprays.

Masri added that 150 participants in Kelantan had received equipment worth about RM10,000 each. - Bernama
