KUALA LUMPUR: A disabled man died after being trapped in a fire that engulfed a two-storey shoplot in Jalan Bangsar here early Sunday.
City Fire and Rescue director Khirudin Drahman said the victim, who was in his 30s and had no lower limbs, was believed to be a worker at the shop, which deals in motorcyles and motorcycle parts beside repairing motorcycles.
"The fire occured at 2.35am. His colleagues gave his identification only as Mohd Yaakob and said that he was from the east coast," he said.
He said the upper floor also housed the shop's workers but the rest of the workers managed to escape when the fire broke out.
He said firemen from the Pantai, Hang Tuah and Sri Hartamas fire stations brought the blaze under control by 3am and that adjacent shops were not affected.
The victim's body was sent to the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre mortuary. Losses and cause of the fire are still under investigaton. - Bernama
