Police chief among seven to receive Datuk Wira title from Malacca Governor


MALACCA: Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ismail Omar and Armed Forces chief Tan Sri Zulkifeli Mohd Zin are among seven recipients who will receive the Darjah Cemerlang Melaka (DCSM) which carries the title Datuk Wira during the Malacca Governor's 74th birthday at Seri Negeri, today.

Five other will also be receiving the DCSM. They are Treasury secretary-general Datuk Dr Mohd Irwan Serigar Abdullah; Tenaga Nasional Berhad chief executive officer Datuk Azman Mohd; Mydin Mohamed Holdings Berhad managing director Datuk Ameer Ali Mydin; Tan Chang Yong Holdings Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Datuk Tan Chang Yong and Digistar Corporation Berhad chief executive officer Datuk Lee Wah Chong.

Malacca state-secretary Datuk Wira Omar Kaseh also revealed that 78 others will be also receiving their Datuk titles during the investiture ceremony.

He said 13 of those receiving Darjah Mulia Seri Melaka (DMSM) that carries the title Datuk includes Malacca Historic City Mayor Zainal Abu and CEO of Al-Rajhi Banking and Investment Azrulnizam Abdul Aziz.

Omar said 58 others would receive Darjah Pangkuan Seri Melaka (DPSM) which also carries the title Datuk along with, among others, State Water Company's CEO Ir. Mohd Khalid Nasir, State Lands and Mines director Roslan Ibrahim, The Star's business columnist Shireen Ann Zacaria and MIC division chairman for Pontian Jasbir Singh.

This year, Malacca Governor Tun Mohd Khalil Yaakob has consented to give away a total of 543 awards to recipients comprising Federal and state government officials, corporate figures, non-governmental organisations, volunteers and two journalists, he said here, yesterday.

He said 24 recipients will receive Darjah Seri Melaka (DSM), 44 of them awarded Bintang Cemerlang Melaka (BCM), Bintang Khidmat Terpuji (BKT) (84), Pingat Jasa Kebaktian (160), Pingat Bakti Masyarakat (135) and 18 of them awarded Pingat Khidmat Lama (PKL).

He also said 35 of them were selected as recipients of the Justice of Peace (JP) title for this years ceremony.

Omar said two local media representatives awarded BKT and PJK are The Star's R.S.N. Murali and deputy editor of Melaka Hari Ini (MHI), Mishrom Matlehan, respectively.
