PUTRAJAYA: The Hari Raya holiday is likely to be a very short one for the Prime Minister as he is expected to meet the heads of Barisan Nasional component parties soon to finalise the list of candidates for the coming general election.
Over the past few days, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has called these party leaders about the meetings.
They have been told the meeting this month, where the Barisan Nasional chairman would meet the component heads individually, will focus entirely on the list of candidates and swapping of seats.
Some leaders have already been told to consider certain proposals from Najib.
“The PM wants to keep this meeting short, smooth and focused. He wants the minor details wrapped up before we meet him,” said a source.
This is believed to the second or third meeting on candidate lists for some parties with a larger number of seats, while for some, it could well be the last meeting before the matter is brought up at the Barisan supreme council meeting.
Said an insider: “The message to everyone is: enjoy your short break and be back early because it will be all systems go from there.”
Those who still continue to speculate on the election date have predicted that early November could be the last window open.
Barisan secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adenan Mansur had said that the election would not be possible in October because the haj season would have started.
The Prime Minister is scheduled to deliver his Budget 2013 speech on Sept 28, where he is certain to outline the programmes of the ruling coalition if it retains control of the Federal Government.
Meanwhile, some Barisan Nasional component leaders said their schedules were full for the whole of August with the Hari Raya and the National Day celebrations.
“I do not see any breaks despite the Raya holidays for everyone. The Raya open houses and visits will allow me to meet my supporters. This is the best time to remind them to vote for BN,” said an official.
