SEPANG: Police have identified the corrosive liquid used in the attack of businessman Winson Ng during a carjacking attempt near the Batu 9 Cheras toll plaza recently.
It is a yellow substance commonly found in supermarkets and shops meant for floor cleaning purposes, said Selangor police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Tun Hisan Tun Hamzah.
It is learnt that some floor cleaning solutions are a mixture of acid and cleaning agents mainly used to remove tough stains.
Users are advised to use rubber gloves when handling the substance as it can cause acid burns.
DCP Tun Hisan advised anyone who suspected they might have been a victim of an acid attack to immediately wash off the liquid with water before seeking medical help.
“Don’t wipe it off with a cloth or your shirt, that’s not enough. Merely wiping may cause more damage,” he said yesterday.
On Friday, Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Khalid Abu Bakar said police would not be calling for more stringent rules on the sale of acid and other corrosive liquids in light of the recent spate of corrosive liquid attacks.
Federal Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk Seri Mohd Bakri Zinin also announced that a taskforce had been formed comprising officers from Kuala Lumpur and Selangor police headquarters to gather information and track down the culprits.
