KOTA KINABALU: Police believe the recent incident in which a woman was splashed with an unidentified liquid was an isolated case.

Kota Kinabalu police chief Asst Comm Ahmad Sofi Zakaria said police also believed the liquid used in the attack was not acid-based although they were still awaiting confirmation from the Chemistry Department.

He said the victim, Ling Siew Teen, appeared to have some redness of the skin but not burns.

ACP Ahmad Sofi also said that the attack was premeditated and not a random incident.

Ling, 22, was sprayed with a water pistol by a man who had earlier called out her name near a supermarket in Taman Khidmat, Kolombong near here on Wednesday.

The incident is striking fear among local residents who are worried that the assailant may be copying the modus operandi of the acid splasher in the peninsula.
