Sabah mine pollution under study

KOTA KINABALU: Villagers near a toxin-laden disused copper mine at the foothills of Mount Kinabalu are looking forward to a study by the Minerals and Geo-Science Department on addressing the mine’s pollution problems.

State Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun said the study, which was due to be completed by December, would look into the best approaches in combating the flow of severe polluted residues from the mining site, located in Mamut, and the tailing dam near Kampung Lohan, 16km away.
