KUALA LUMPUR: Popular Malay-language radio deejays Linda Onn and Halim Othman have now joined Suria FM and can be heard at 105.3FM from Jan 18 onwards.
This was announced by Suria FM yesterday at a press conference to present its new programmes for 2010.
Linda and Halim both started their careers at Era FM back in 1998 and went on to become the country’s most popular deejays.
Linda, who spent 10 years at Era FM and then a year at Sinar FM decided to join Suria FM this year.
“I was approached by Yusry (Abu Samah, chief broadcasting officer of Suria FM) and when he told me about the ambitions he had for Suria FM, it reminded me about how I first started out at Era. Era was just starting out then and we were very adventurous and I think that’s what attracted me to a smaller radio station like Suria,” said 32-year-old Linda.
Halim on the other hand, had stopped deejaying in Jan 2008 with Sinar FM and went on to host the Malaysian version of Wheel of Fortune — Roda Impian — on Astro Ria.
“It’s quite surprising because Suria approached me just three weeks ago and I stopped becoming a radio deejay on Jan 18, 2008 and now, on Jan 18, 2010, I’m back on radio. When I stopped deejaying a few years ago, I wanted to see what else I could do outside of radio but I realised that a piece of me was missing ... and that was radio,” said Halim.
With two of the hottest radio deejays on board, chief broadcasting officer Yusry is confident that the station will attract more listeners to the station, giving the two big Malay language stations, Era and Hot, a run for their money.
“We chose Linda and Halim because we gauged who the audience would like to listen to. Besides, they were the top deejays at their previous radio stations,” said Yusry.
Linda can be heard on the segment, Suria Drive, every Monday to Friday beginning Jan 18 from 4pm to 8pm while Halim will be taking up the morning segment, Suria Breakfast, every Monday to Friday from 6am to 10am.
