Alleycats’ David Arugumugam awarded a JSM


KUALA LUMPUR: Veteran artiste Thiagarajan K.R. Arumugam, better known as David Arumugam, of the Alleycats was among 285 people who received federal awards and honours from the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin at Istana Negara on Thursday.

David, who received the Johan Setia Mahkota (JSM) Award, was the lead vocalist of renowned local band, the Alleycats, which was formed in 1969 and gained fame and popularity in the 1970s.

Four others received the Panglima Jasa Negara (PJN) which carries the title Datuk.

They were senator Datuk Musa Sheikh Fadzir, member of the investment panel of the Armed Forces Fund Board Datuk Abdul Rahman Abdul Hamid, former Johor Baru state assemblyman Datuk Ali Mohamed and Penang St John Ambulans Southwest Area deputy president Datuk Jamilah Wahab.

Senator Osman Bungsu received the Johan Mangku Negara (JMN) along with six others.

Ten people received the Johan Setia Mahkota, 46 the Kesatria Mangku Negara, 88 the Ahli Mangku Negara and 131 the Pingat Pangkuan Negara. -- Bernama
