IPOH: Cardiologist Dr Mah Hang Soon became the new Perak MCA Youth chief when he beat his challenger Datuk Ling Hee Leong.

Dr Mah, who is the Perak MCA sole representative in the state assembly, polled 366 votes against Ling's 184 votes.

The 43-year-old Chenderiang assemblyman said with his win, he would consider going for a higher post in MCA Youth.

"But I need to discuss with members and seek their opinion on what post to go for.

"Traditionally, Perak MCA Youth has always been given a post in the wing," he added.

Dr Mah noted that the comfortable majority would push him to work harder for the wing.

In an immediate response, Ling said he had abandoned the idea of contesting for a higher position in the party following his loss.

The 39-year-old businessman however said he would give his full support to Dr Mah if Dr Mah wishes to go for a higher position in the party.

On whether he would defend his deputy MCA Youth chief post, Ling said:

"I have to reconsider and reassess the situation."
