Maya heaves a sigh of relief

PETALING JAYA: Award-winning actress Maya Karin is feeling “a little bit better” now that Umno Youth deputy chief Khairy Jamaluddin has killed off rumours of their so-called marriage.

The actress has denied on a TV talk show on Friday night that she was married, adding that she was surprised how such rumours could have surfaced.

Maya: ‘I was very surprised that somethinglike that could survive on purely nothing’

Earlier in the day, Khairy had also blasted those who started and spread the rumours, saying that he has only one wife – Nori Abdullah (the Prime Minister's daughter).

“Now that we have both come out with our statements, I definitely feel a little bit better,” Maya told The Star yesterday.

“I think Khairy has made it quite clear and indisputable about the rumour.

“If anyone still insists it is true, please bring us the proof,” said the star who won the Best Actress Award at the Asia-Pacific Film Festival two years ago for her part in Pontianak Harum Sundal Malam. She reprised the leading role in the film's sequel last year.

“The rumour has been going on for so long,” said Maya, 27.

“I have had to deny it for almost a year now and was very surprised that something like that could survive on purely nothing.”

Maya will start work by the middle of this month in Othman Ali’s Anak Halal (Legitimate Child), alongside Farid Kamil and Fasha Sandha.

In the Astro talks show AC Mizal Di Sini on Friday, she revealed that she was seeing a European whom she described as “a normal friend.”
