SAFE AND HAPPY: (Nov 2) Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi reminded people travelling on the road during the Hari Raya Aidilfitri festive period to exercise care in order to avoid tragedy. The Prime Minister said the rush home to celebrate the occasion could result in accidents that could turn joy into sorrow. Abdullah expressed his sadness over the rising incidence of road accidents, mainly caused by human error that resulted in death and injury.

FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS: (Nov 1) Hindus ushered in a joyful and happy Deepavali, albeit on a moderate scale nationwide. Leaders of the community, in keeping with the annual tradition, hosted open houses to celebrate the Festival of Lights. The open houses were held at night to accommodate Muslims, who were fasting during Ramadan. MIC president and Works Minister Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu received more than 8,000 people at his open house at Chong Hwa Chinese Secondary School in Jalan St Thomas off Jalan Ipoh, Kuala Lumpur.
