PETALING JAYA: From next month, employers can complete the application process for foreign workers at the Home Ministrys new one-stop centre, which will cut the processing period to one day from a couple of weeks previously.
Immigration enforcement director Datuk Ishak Mohamed said the current procedure involved applications being scrutinised by a technical committee comprising officers from various ministries that met once a week.
The technical committee would discuss applications for workers in sectors that were under their jurisdiction, which would take some time.
Under the new system, instead of this committee, officers from the various ministries would be assigned to the one-stop centre where they process the applications immediately, he said.
Ishak said the levies for the number of workers required was also to be paid at the Home Ministry from next month, and approval letters would be issued within a day.
Levies are currently paid at the Immigration Department; under the new system the department will only have to deal with the granting of visas.
With regard to golf caddies, Ishak said no more new foreign ones could be hired.
