READY TO ROCK: Meine and his veteran band will be performing at Stadium Merdeka in Kuala Lumpur on Sept 13. |
KUALA LUMPUR: While a new breed of American outfits are banging their way into young hearts and minds worldwide, Germany’s foremost music export, the Scorpions, continue to transcend age and boundaries with their European-blend rock classics.
The veteran band, which is synonymous with stadium rock, is set to sting its legions of fans here again with their concert here next month.
The popular rock act, led by enigmatic vocalist Klaus Meine, was last in Kuala Lumpur in 2001. The others who make up the band that will play here again are guitarists Matthias Jabs and Rudolf Schenker, drummer James Kottak and new bassist Pawel Maciwoda.
The one-night stand at Stadium Merdeka on Sept 13 is part of their South-east Asian tour, which also includes stops in Bangkok, Jakarta and Medan.
The outdoor event, presented by Star Planet Sdn Bhd, sees Klaus Mein and company also promoting their latest album Unbreakable released by BMG Malaysia.
As one of Germany’s hottest rock outfits who had tirelessly made music and tours for the past 39 years, the forthcoming Scorpions’ concert promises to be a hit-driven affair with rock staples like Rock You Like A Hurricane, Love Drive, The Zoo and Winds Of Change as well as current single She Said and others.
While they started out as a hard-rocking band, a big part of the Scorpions machine is also their softer side, as depicted in such glorious ballads as Still Loving You, Holiday and When the Smoke is Going Down.
Their show here will feature homegrown rock icons, Search, in support.
