MAJOR Chinese dailies focused on the Government's plan to introduce the study of abacus and mental arithmetic as part of the Mathematics subject in Year One syllabus in all schools next year.
Deputy Education Minister Datuk Hon Choon Kim said two periods a week would be allocated for the teaching of the two topics from Years One to Four and the objective was to strengthen the pupils' skill in doing mental calculation.
