BANGI: Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia has earned itself a place in the Malaysian Book of Records for the third time by creating the country’s longest satay line.
Equipped with over 100kg of chicken meat and 4,000 lidi (sticks), 300 students from the university’s Kolej Burhanuddin Helmi fanned the 90.6m-long satay for about 20 minutes.
College principal Prof Dr Zaidi Mohd Isa said the idea of using satay in the feat was because it was a part of the Malaysian culture.
Malaysian Book of Records official Nur Akmar Jailany verified the feat and presented a certificate to the university.
Event committee member Mas-tura Mohd Zaki, 20, said:
“We almost gave up as there were not enough funds to support the event,”
He added that it was fortunate they received sponsorship from Samuri Huraimi, owner of Sate Kajang Hj Samuri.
The university also set the record for the longest lemang two years ago and when they raised the longest Jalur Gemilang (2km) on the Great Wall of China which coincided with China’s 51st National Day last year.
