‘Detention ‘centre was ‘crowded’

KOTA KINABALU: The temporary immigration detention centre at Menggatal, some 22km from the city, was overcrowded during the height of a crackdown against illegal immigrants last year, the Sessions Court here heard yesterday. 

Chief Insp Syed Ahmad Tazuddin of the General Operations Force (GOF) told the court that up to 3,000 people were held at the detention centre that was designed to accommodate about 2,000 detainees.
