PENANG: Three coffeeshop associations have come to the defence of one of their members who imposed a 30 sen charge on customers who don’t order drinks, saying the move is to prevent them from hogging the tables and chairs.

The Penang Foochow Coffeeshop Owners Association, which has about 250 Foochow members, the Penang Coffeeshop Association, representing about 150 Hainanese members, and the Seberang Prai Coffeeshop and Eatery Owners Association, with about 250 mostly Hokkien members, felt that the move was justified due to high rentals.
