Petaling Street pays tribute to leaders

KUALA LUMPUR: Four giant posters of past and present Prime Ministers now adorn the heart of Petaling Street as Malaysia’s Chinatown pays tribute to the nation’s builders.

Dr Mahathir would grace the grand people's gathering there on Saturday.

The pictures of Tunku Abdul Rahman, Tun Abdul Razak, Tun Hussein Onn and Datuk Seri Dr Mahathir Mohamad are hung over the new roof that covers part of Petaling Street which is preparing for a grand people’s gathering on Saturday.

MCA president Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting said the posters were one way to show appreciation to the four Prime Ministers for their sterling stewardship of the nation.

“It is because of their dedication, commitment and foresight that Malaysia has become, and continues to be, a peaceful and modern country,” said Ong.

Ong, who witnessed the raising of Dr Mahathir’s poster, said the Prime Minister would grace the event on Saturday.

“It will also be a memorable event as it marks the final time Dr Mahathir is coming to Petaling Street in his capacity as the Prime Minister. We appreciate him for wanting to spend some time with us,” said Ong.
