Don't politicise probe into King Ee, says Penang police chief

PENANG: The police regard the case involving triad leader Ong King Ee @ Jackie Chan as a police case and say that the issue should not be politicised. 

Penang police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Othman Talib said it was by coincidence that Ong, who is said to be the Sio Sam Ong (Three Little Emperors) leader, was an MCA member. 

“It is by coincidence that he is an MCA member and our investigations found that he is a party member in his own capacity and not under the triad banner,” he said. 

DCP Othman said it was best that King Ee, 37, surrendered to the nearest police station and assist police in their investigations into the numerous allegations against him. 

“It is better for King Ee to give himself up rather than lead a fugitive’s life. We wish to clear the matter once and for all by verifying all the allegations against him. 

On Sunday, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said the MCA was not involved in secret society activities, adding that it was an isolated case and that the issue should not be misunderstood. 

He said King Ee was on the police wanted list because of his own doing which had nothing to do with the MCA and that the police investigations were merely on King Ee. 

Yesterday, DCP Othman urged all parties, including the press, not to politicise or sensationalise the matter and to allow the police to carry out investigations.
