KUALA LUMPUR: In a landmark event, political and social activists worked together with the police to hold a peaceful Workers Day rally at Dataran Merdeka here yesterday.

Unlike last year’s rally, which turned ugly with the arrest of 17 activists, this year’s event saw various organisations such as Suaram, Alaigal and Dong Jong as well as plantation and factory workers peacefully celebrating their commonality as members of the nation’s workforce.
