Photography buffs gain expert insight into craft

KUALA LUMPUR: Participants at a photography talk were taken to a new world through the eyes of professional photographer Kim Teoh. 

He shared his experiences in the streets of Tibet, India, Malaysia’s east coast and also his stint in Dalian, China, shooting photographs of models there. 

Teoh showed an unused collection of his pictures that captured the people, food, places and landmarks. 

“A lot of them who came for the talk are new to photography, so besides important technical things like shutter speed and composition, I hope they were exposed to other forms of photography. Fashion itself is inspired by lifestyle, like photography,” he said during his talk at the MidValley exhibition centre here. 

Participants learned about correct lighting, properties of colour and texture, composition and the importance of communication with their subjects. 

The talk was attended by about 100 photography and fashion enthusiasts. 

“By coming to these talks, you get to see things from another photographer’s perspective,” said Kelvin Chan, a part-time photographer and contributing member of the Photo-Creator Club, an association set up under Teoh’s Photo-Creator publication.  

Teoh’s fashion photography works are also on display at the Fujifilm booth in Hall 2 of the exhibition centre.
