IPOH: Lintang state assemblyman Datuk Mohamad Padil Harun passed away at Hospital Selayang in Kuala Lumpur after a short illness at 12.50pm yesterday.

Padil, 51, who served for three terms as state assemblyman, died of liver cancer.

He leaves behind wives Datin Salamah Harun, 52, and Salwati Ramli, 36, son Husni Zaim, 29, and daughter Yoharnis, 27.

Padil was admitted to a hospital in Mecca on Feb 6 when he went to perform the haj and on his return, was transferred to Hospital Selayang on Feb 26.

He will be buried at the Muslim cemetery in Kg Sungai Durian in Lintang, Sungai Siput today.

Sungai Siput MP Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu, who had known Padil for the last 28 years, said Padil’s demise was a great loss to his constituents and to Barisan Nasional.

“He was a hard worker, a very good speaker and an effective politician who had brought development to his constituency (Lintang comes under the Sungei Siput parliamentary constituency),'' he said.
